Hidden Monogram Sconces
Roseville, Minnesota
Commissioned architectural glass
Design: Potekglass
Fabrication: Potekglass
Sector: Residential
Technique: Kiln-formed
Created for a residential client who gave Potekglass considerable latitude in developing the theme, Hidden Monogram Sconces was conceived as a two-part symbolic work representing the formation of a new blended family. The central design incorporates abstracted motifs drawn from both Christian and Jewish traditions, reflecting the distinct histories and identities coming together within the family.

The composition was developed around the integration of three children into the new family unit. Abstracted Hebrew letters are woven into a geometric structure inspired by sacred Christian geometry, allowing the two visual traditions to coexist within a unified composition. Rather than representing either tradition literally, the design uses their underlying forms and symbolism to express connection, balance, and the idea of a whole greater than its individual parts.

Formed in glass and illuminated from within, the sconce reveals its imagery through light, allowing the abstracted symbols and geometric relationships to emerge gradually from the composition.
Hidden Monogram Sconce uses architectural glass as a means of storytelling through a work designed specifically for the home.
